Let’s talk about Local Flavor in Haskell Oklahoma

by | Mar 31, 2022

Let’s talk about Haskell’s Local Flavor! There is a lot to review here because I went twice. On our first visit, we started off with their homemade onion rings, and these boys were on a whole different level! Perfectly seasoned, cooked and battered, maybe the best I have ever had. Then came the Oh Cheesus burger and home cut fries. This is a cheeseburger that uses grilled cheese sandwiches as buns. The burger and the fries were both solid.

Halfway through the meal, I took a bite of my wife’s hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, and brown gravy. This damned thing made me instantly regret my order! I have had Hamburger/Salisbury steaks before, and they are fine, but this was great, especially the potatoes!  It tasted like mashed baked potatoes and were great!

Then for dessert we got the Vanilla cheesecake.  When I first laid eyes on this thing, I was disappointed.  It looked like a no bake type of cheesecake with whipped cream on the top, but that disappointment was alleviated when I dug in. This cheesecake Had a double layer crust with legit cheesecake in the middle.  It was like a cheesecake sandwich with whipped cream on top and it was great!

The service and atmosphere were top notch, as was the food. However, on my way out I knew I would be doing a disservice to the restaurant, myself and anyone reading this review to not experience more of the menu and decided to come back the next day for a second round.

This time, Instead of the amazing onion rings, we got a half, and half order of the Jalapeño bottle caps (fried Jalapeños) and pepper jack cheese cubes.  Both were amazing and served with Jalapeño ranch. Just like the rings, these were cooked perfectly. I mean usually fried Jalapeños are okay, but these had perfect flavor and texture.

Then came my much-anticipated chicken fried steak!  It did not disappoint either.  Perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, the CFS was crisp, but not too bready, along with those great potatoes and a cream gravy.  This was definitely a top tier CFS and everything tasted completely homemade. But nothing could have prepared me for what happened next…

I tried one of my wife’s buttermilk chicken bites dipped in gravy.  Holy Smokes! I was instantly transported back to 1995… Paramount California… several minutes after my very first rail of cocaine when I looked at my friend Carlos and said WHERE IN THE HELL HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!? This was that good.  Perfectly tender and cooked. As much as I loved my chicken fried steak, and I did love it, these chicken bites were insane.

So, after I finished my meal (and half of hers) I had to try another dessert. This time it was the lemon cake, which is one of my favorite things.  Just like everything else, the cake was out of this world! Absolutely delicious and homemade.

All of that to say, if you want a true small town café experience, with tremendous food, service, and atmosphere, go to Haskell’s Local Flavor.  You won’t be disappointed!!

  1. Dang it, Steve! How am I ever going to lose weight reading these reviews! Now I must drag the hubs here! Those onion strings caught my interest first, then the cheese and jalapeño morsels. 🤦‍♀️

    • You need to! Everything there is amazing. What fascinated me was none of it was greasy. You know when you get those type of onion rings they are always great, but when you get to the bottom they’re all greasy. A pool of oil. Not with these guys. Nothing was greasy. So good!

  5. My coder is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the costs. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on numerous websites for about a year and am concerned about switching to another platform. I have heard great things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
