Let’s talk about Piso’s Tulsa!!
Since you are here, you may be asking, who the hell are you? Well, I’m glad you asked! My name is Steve Pisonero, and I would like to welcome you to PisosTulsa.com!
My wife and I moved to Tulsa from Southern California in 1999 in search of a great place to raise a family. And boy did we find it! I remember my first stop at Braums. A buxom gal in sultry voice said, “Here’s your double dip, Honey”. Looking over at my wife with two scoops of pistachio almond in my hand and an overflowing heart, “I said, we are never F’ing leaving!” And we never have!
Despite my love of Tulsa, I harbored some quiet frustration over the years. It was the food! There were an endless number of chain restaurants, and even the mom-and-pop spots were serving frozen premade dishes. I mean, I was in Oklahoma! Where was the homemade fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and mashed potatoes?
We are all moved by different things. For some it is freedom from tyranny, for some it’s social justice, and for others it is the advancement of civilization. For me it was a little more gastric! In late 2020, I made it my mission to find the best burger in Tulsa. I scoured the internet only to find blogs and articles full of bull. The title would say “The Top 10 Cheeseburgers in Tulsa”, or “The Best Burgers in Green Country.” You view the page only to find upscale burgers with a two sentence write up. The authors likely did not even eat there. It was just an opportunity to grab some ad revenue and demonstrate a refined palate.
This put me into action! I spent the next several months eating and rating burgers on a spreadsheet. Once I felt confident that I had found the top burgers, I posted it for my friends on Facebook. The result was a ton of shares and messages from people giving burger recommendations and restaurants asking me to try theirs.
I started a Facebook group where I would share not only burger ratings but restaurant reviews as well. Over the course of a year, I posted 50+ reviews with great reception. I would receive messages from members telling me they tried a reviewed restaurant and how much they loved it. I was also contacted by restaurants telling me what an impact a review had on their business. So many of these messages were very heartwarming, and I quickly developed a passion for bringing Tulsans and the best Tulsa restaurants together.
