Let’s Talk about Phat Philly’s

by | Apr 25, 2022

Let’s talk about cheesesteaks! Seared beef or chicken, cheese, and onions on a hoagie roll! You can’t get much better than that! Yeah I know some people put peppers on them, but if peppers touch my cheesesteak, somebody may get a crane kick to the gouch! Phat Philly’s has a location in Broken Arrow and one towards downtown Tulsa. Both are really good, and this episode of cheesy gluttony was brought to you by the Broken Arrow location.

When you walk into Phat Philly’s, the first thing you are going to notice is the atmosphere. A cool Rasta type vibe, with reggae playing in the background. You’ll also notice names written on bricks and all over the walls, so if you would like to be memorialized in Phat Philly history, bring a marker. The next thing you will notice is the basic menu. Philly sandwiches, tenders, wings, sides and toppings. Sandwiches come in both 7 and 11 inch options. Now size actually does matter in this situation fellas, So, while this would be completely reciprocal to my normal suggestion… I recommend the 11 inch! I mean even if you can’t take on an entire 11 inch, it never hurts to have a little extra left over!

All right fine.. let’s dispense with the phallic innuendos, and get to the sandwich. Mine was very simple. Steak, onions, and cheese whiz. I will make one recommendation though.. ask them to cut it in half. When I unwrapped my sandwich, I noticed it was a whole foot of meat cheese and onions. While I shoved one end in my mouth, I had to hold the middle and back up with my hands. We will label this scene as… awkward… But I will say it was worth it. Absolutely delicious! The wife got a chicken, with mayo, provolone, onions and mushrooms. Now I wouldn’t touch his damn thing because of the mushrooms, but it looked delicious and she loved it. Though as we walked out, she assured me it was way too big, and she really would have preferred the 7 inch! That’s a keeper right there! And hey who would turn their nose up at some leftovers?

And what about the sides you ask? They are good. We got the waffle fries and the tater tots. One thing I have noticed about these guys is they always cook the tater tots right. You know a tater tot could be great or nasty, but these guys always get them cooked right. So if you’re a tater tot person you are safe here! Additionally, they have great ranch. And there are several chilled bottles right next to the soda machine.

So that’s about it. Great meaty, and cheesy sandwiches. Good sides, great ranch and great service. All to a Bob Marley soundtrack while signing your name on the wall. Oh and I forgot to mention there are also little riddles in the napkin holders. Kind of cool. They’ve been here a while, but if you haven’t had Phat Philly’s, or haven’t been there in a while, give them a shot you will be glad you did!

  2. Phat Philly’s in BA has closed. Try Steak Stuffers in Tulsa west of Memorial on 51st. Family moved here 30 years ago from Philly and couldn’t find a cheese steak so they opened their own.
