Let’s talk about the best damn burger in Tulsa!!

by | Jan 14, 2022

Now when I say the best Burger in Tulsa, anyone in the know understands who I am talking about. I am speaking of the great Bills Jumbo Burger!  And when I say burger, I am talking about the king daddy of burgers! The double bacon cheeseburger! Now, a double bacon cheeseburger and fries is my absolute favorite meal, and I have eaten more of them than most. When I do a review, I understand preferences are different, so I will typically use terms like great, awesome, or even just my favorite. However, with Bills Jumbo Burger, I have no qualms in saying, they are the best in Tulsa, maybe the best I have ever had!

Let’s start with the beef! Bill’s Jumbo Burger purchases their fresh beef daily. They have both 1/3 and 1/2 pound patties and cook onions into their burgers.  Not only are they amazing, but always consistent. The bacon is great, as are the fresh cut fries!

I was contacted by Natalie Mikles at Tulsa People Magazine a little while back because they were doing an article on the best burgers in Tulsa and wanted to include old Piso and my Facebook group in the story (see Tulsa People story). So, on the allotted day, I met the photographer, Michelle, who was awesome, for a photo. She was sweet enough to buy me a burger for the picture. It was a single with all the fixings. She obviously doesn’t know how this fat boy gets down. I didn’t want to be rude and didn’t want to be the panzón I am by turning my nose up at vegetables, so I panicked and told her I had a tomato allergy!!

After the she left, I snuck back in and got my standard double bacon cheeseburger with fried onions only and fresh fries. I then went in my car and polished off the best 1600 calories (that’s with a Diet Pepsi) ever.  I then sat back with a huge grin and the scent of fried onions and burger lingering in the air!

You do need to know a few things about Bills if you have never been there before. Let’s start out with it is cash only. Bill’s said, “F credit card fees and the IRS,” which you have to admire! The next thing is seating. While there is some indoor and outdoor seating, it is limited. Parking is also limited, but I’ve always been able to find a spot. It is also very busy. You are in for a wait if you are just going to show up during lunch rush and stand in line. Lastly, they close when they run out of food. Google may say they close at 3, but if they run out of food, they will be closed early.

So what’s my solution?? I do one of two things. I either get there right when they open so I can sit down and enjoy my meal at a table, or I call in my order 15 minutes before I get there and eat in my car. You could also bring it home if you can wait that long! To me a burger that has sat in a bag for 20 minutes can’t hold a candle to a fresh one, so I am happy to risk the need for a vacuum!

What else is there to say? The best burger from a Tulsa landmark with great folks and an absolute fair price!!

  1. It’s good, I’ll give you that. However being the best, I disagree. In my opinion Hank’s does a better job. Plus the people are (a) much nicer to the customers, (b) they take cash, checks and credit cards, and (c) the inside is much larger and very much cleaner

I asked for a sample of their chili to see if I wanted a chili cheese burger and was told rudely that they don’t do that. I even offered to pay for a sample and was rudely told no way. I haven’t been back and don’t recommend them to anyone else because they have no customer service. I don’t enjoy eating around rude staff. I assume they can’t fire the woman because I think she’s the owner’s wife. All in all, Hank’s beats Bill’s.

    • They are definitely very Kurt LOL. I’m not a big fan of Hanks. I think the biggest reason for that is I like bacon on my burgers and Hanks uses pre-made bag bacon. Or at least they did when I went there last. The Bacon came right out of a Hormel bag. And they charged me $2 for two slices of that thin bacon. My second issue is the fries are frozen. They are decent frozen fries, but unlike bills they are not homemade. If I just went in there for a cheeseburger I think I would like Hanks a lot more.

  2. Flo’s is the best! One on 11th and one on admiral in Catoosa. You must try, everything they make is great!

    • I have tried both Flo’s locations. Honestly not a fan of their burgers. I know people love them though. I like mine plain and dry and really prefer American cheese which may be a factor. I know they do great things in the community though. I have been meaning to try their chicken fried steak though! I have heard it is great!!

  3. I’ve gotta tell you, I do not understand the passion folks have for Bill’s. I found it to be one of the most flavorless burgers I’ve ever had. I can rattle off five places that make much better burgers. It wasn’t the bother at all.
